Greenaway Outdoor Pool

Why Travel Far? Enjoy a “Staycation” this Summer!

Flights, hotels, rental cars… all of the basic necessities that make for a perfect vacation come with a cost! Consider a holiday close to home this summer. Our staff have put on their travel-agent-hat and compiled a list of free and low-cost ways to enjoy a sunny staycation in Surrey! And best of all, you don’t need to worry about packing any luggage!

1. Swim at Surrey's Outdoor Pools

Dip your toes into one of eight outdoor pools! All of the outdoor pools are free-of-charge and are a fun way to spend the day with your family. Come by for a swim any day of the week until September 4, 2017. Find out about swim times on the Tides Out website.

2. Soak up the Sun at Crescent Beach

Catch some rays at Crescent Beach! Crescent Beach is a popular summer destination for residents and visitors. Swim in the ocean, let the kids make a sand castle, and soak up the sun. Don't forget to wear your sunscreen!

3. Listen to Sounds of Summer

Live music is happening at the Sounds of Summer! Celebrate different genres and music from around the world during Surrey's free Sounds of Summer concert series. Be sure to bring your folding chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to fully enjoy all the performances. Please note: all pets must be on leash and some garden locations do not permit pets at all.

4. Have a Picnic or BBQ

Bring your dinner outdoors at a Surrey Park and have a picnic or BBQ!  You can have a picnic or BBQ on a first-come, first-serve basis without notifying the City of Surrey if your event is private, you have less than 100 people, or if you are not hiring anyone to provide a service at your event. Do you meet all of those requirements? If yes, great! Enjoy your meal under the sun.

5. Work on your Swing at Surrey's Tennis Courts

There's no club membership required for a fun game of tennis! Be active and play tennis with your friends and family at one of 67 outdoor tennis courts. All you need to bring is a good pair of running shoes and a tennis racket. All tennis courts are first-come first serve and are open from dawn to dusk.

6. Smell the Flowers at Darts Hill Garden Park

Visit Darts Hill Garden Park during select dates in July for Weekend Strolls! The garden may also be visited during Open Houses (featuring plant sales and garden tours.) Enrich your Darts Hill experience through a pre-booked guided Garden tour for just $5.00 per person. Please note: dogs are not allowed at Darts Hill Garden Park.

7. Check out City of Surrey's Festivals &  Events

Looking for weekend plans or something fun to do? Go to a Surrey event this summer and enjoy fun and free drop-in events! Events is Surrey vary by age, communities and types of event so you can find the right fit for you.
